Patent Lodged For Buried Utility Location Management Process

LORD Civil have announced their lodgement of a patent-pending management process for the pre-excavation identification of buried infrastructure.

Employing an innovative quality-of-outcome-based approach to this vitally significant matter, the process has received wide collective acclaim from asset owners, contractors, and Health and Safety bodies in both Australia and New Zealand.

With over 60% of current infrastructure now being non-metallic in nature, and with the tolerance by asset owners to third party damage now at the lowest levels ever, the requirement for more advanced practices and location technology is undisputed by the Industry.

Convincingly verified in Australasia through selected field trials over a three year period, LORD Civil are upbeat about the potential contribution their Method will offer the Industry.

Managing Director, Mr Trevor Lord, having researched in depth the international status of utility detection processes and outcome levels of present practices, has concluded that although New Zealand would appear currently to lie somewhat behind presently-accepted world best practices there is no one country where best practice is truly adequate for the risks being posed currently. “There is no question that the methodology we have now protected is not only very timely but also that will serve to raise the outcome levels to where all affected parties wish them to be”, comments Mr Lord.

Significantly to the success of the proposed implementation, the method is readily conducted by most existing practitioners after the completion of suitable competency-assessed training. Equipment requirements are raised somewhat over present levels but the application of the technique is held to be, and verified by the field experiences to date, to be similarly-priced and of comparable time duration to complete as present norms for such work.

Licensing inquiries from asset owners and responsible local and regional authorities are welcomed.
