LORD Civil have announced a new flagship pipe and cable locator unit that provides all required facilities for carrying out such locations in the most difficult conditions. Manufactured for LORD by RYCOM Instruments®, USA. a leading manufacturer and global supplier of cable, pipe and fault locating equipment for the past 60 years, the new model 8879RF cable, pipe, and fault locator is impressively featured and optioned. Three active frequencies—815 Hz, 8 kHz, and 82 kHz— and two passive frequencies—50 cycle and RF— are provide, ensuring adequate signal is applied to buried utilities in any environment. Multiple active frequencies provided by the 8879RF allow the user to accurately locate with a minimum of “ghosting” to adjacent lines while maintaining the ability to continue locating past faults and around conduit bends. The passive 50 cycle and RF frequency modes are highly sensitive to the electromagnetic fields of “live” utilities and offer the ability to locate without the use of a signal transmitter. Expanded and improved transmitter functions include improved transmitter induction, dual-frequency coupled induction at 8 kHz and 82 kHz, and automatic impedance matching when using direct connection. Transmitter functions are accessed via weather-proof membrane buttons and both user input and transmitter status are verified with audible responses. The ergonomically designed and balanced 8879RF receiver boasts instant push-button depth up to 7 metres and provides current measurement to identify the target utility in crowded easements. A backlit digital display provides instant feedback and guides the user to the precise location of the fault, day or night. Continuing its reputation for training and after-sales support, LORD offers the option of full on-site training on the unit, as well as providing an excellent VHS video presentation as standard. “By working closely with Rycom on the 8879RF pricing has been kept exceptionally competitive”, comments Mr Trevor Lord of LORD Civil. “Although the set is seen as a flagship model, the Rycom range has many lower-priced options for all contracting requirements and they complement very well our range of ground penetration radar units to ensure the consistent delivery of the very best utility location outcomes”.
