Measuring soil water content over extended areas has major agricultural implications. From managing irrigation to optimizing crop yield, knowledge of soil water content is crucial. While time domain reflectometry (TDR) has been widely used for this purpose, ground penetrating radar (GPR) sees much less application although both techniques respond to the same electromagnetic soil properties.
